Raj Kumar Goyal has been appointed as the Chief information Commissioner

President Droupadi Murmu on December 15, 2025 administered the oath of office to former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Raj Kumar Goyal as the Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission. Soon after taking oath, Mr. Goyal took charge and administered the oath of office to eight new Information Commissioners in the presence of two incumbent Information Commissioners, Anandi Ramalingam and Vinod Kumar Tiwari.

  • The Central Information Commission was constituted under the Right to Information Act, 2005, and other than the Chief Information Commissioner, it can have up to 10 members.
  • The jurisdiction of the Commission extends over all Central public authorities.
  • A full Commission is in place for the first time in nine years.
  • The three-member panel that recommended the names comprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
