As part of YUVA Competitive Academy’s Success Stories Series, we spoke to Muddangala Krishnaveni, who secured selection in APPSC Group 1 as Assistant Commissioner of State Tax in Andhra Pradesh State Tax Services. In this interaction, she shares her preparation journey, study strategy, challenges, and advice for future aspirants in her own words.

Q1. Please introduce yourself.

My name is Muddangala Krishnaveni. I am from Chittoor District (Zone 4). I have been selected for APPSC Group 1 as Assistant Commissioner of State Tax.

Q2. What is your educational background?

I completed my B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIIT, Idupulapaya. I studied in both English and Telugu mediums, which helped me understand concepts better.

Q3. When did you start preparing for APPSC exams?

I started preparing for APPSC exams in 2023. My preparation duration was around one and a half years.

Q4. How many attempts did you take before selection?

I cleared APPSC Group 1 in my very first attempt.

Q5. Were you working during preparation or a full-time aspirant?

I was a full-time aspirant, fully focused on my preparation.

Q6. What was your daily study routine?

My preparation revolved around repetition. I strongly believe that revision is the key to retention.

Q7. How many hours did you study on average per day?

On average, I studied 10 to 12 hours per day.

Q8. How did you divide time between static subjects, current affairs, revision, and tests?

I gave importance to all components equally—static subjects, current affairs, revision, and test practice.

Q9. What was your subject-wise preparation strategy?

My strategy was simple: continuous revision. Instead of reading new material repeatedly, I focused on revising what I had already studied.

Q10. What books and materials did you follow?

I mainly followed notes and official standard books.

Q11. How many revisions did you do before the exam?

I revised my subjects multiple times, as many times as required until I felt confident.

Q12. How important were mock tests in your preparation?

Mock tests were very useful. They helped me understand my mistakes and improve continuously.

Q13. How many mock tests did you attempt?

  • Prelims: More than 20 mock tests
  • Mains: More than 10 mock tests

Q14. How did you analyze mock tests?

Through a combination of mentorship guidance and self-analysis.

Q15. What was the biggest improvement you noticed through test practice?

I stopped repeating the same mistakes and gradually improved my performance.

I faced health issues, which made preparation difficult at times.

Q20. How did you handle failures or low marks in tests?

I learned from my mistakes and made sure not to repeat them.

Q21. Did you ever feel like quitting? What motivated you to continue?

No, I never felt like quitting. My life itself is my motivation.

Q22. How did you manage stress and anxiety?

I handled stress in a balanced way, without letting it affect my preparation.

Q23. How did you maintain consistency every day?

With a never-give-up mindset.

Q24. Tell us about your family support.

My family supported me immensely:

  • Father: M. Doraswamy
  • Mother: M. Rathnamma
  • Two brothers
  • And my close friend Annapurna

Their support played a major role in my success.

Q25. One habit that helped you most during preparation?

Consistency.

Q26. How was your exam experience?

Both Prelims and Mains were different, but I learned something valuable at every stage.

Q27. How was your interview experience?

The interview was very good. I felt happy, excited, and confident throughout the process.

Q28. One mistake aspirants must avoid in APPSC exams?

Giving up attitude.

Q29. Your message to APPSC Group 1 & Group 2 aspirants?

“Hard work and consistency never fail. I strongly believe this.”

Q30. Strategy for beginners?

Know something about everything and start your journey with strong dedication and discipline.

Q31. Strategy for repeaters?

Do not feel low.
Identify your mistakes and make sure you don’t repeat them.
Success will definitely come—believe in yourself !

Q32. How many study hours are enough realistically per day?

It depends on individual ability.

Q33. Is coaching mandatory?

I cannot say coaching is mandatory, but it is very helpful.

Q34. One motivational line you believe in?

“Never give up.”

Clearing APPSC Group 1 in the first attempt, despite health challenges, stands as a testament to Krishnaveni’s consistency, discipline, and mental strength. Her journey proves one simple truth: Those who never give up, eventually succeed.
